And the journey begins

I love photography and love my NIKON! I discovered digital photography a little over a year ago and haven't looked back since. There is always something new to learn and images to capture!

Great Ocean Road

Yesterday being my last day off before heading back to work today, and another beautiful day so we decided to head up the Great Ocean Road to the "Twelve Apostles". I had not been there for 25 years and Brendan had not been there before, it was just as beautiful as I had remembered and as you can see I got some great photographs. Next time we are going to make a weekend of it as I would love to get some pics at sunset! I used 50-200mm zoom lens for all of these pics, using autofocus with the camera on manual settings.

Another nice day, so another photo outing

This time we decided to head for St. Kilda and some of the bayside suburbs. Here are the pics from today's outings, just loving the colours this camera is producing, and today I used mostly the 200mm lens.

Photography outing

Beautiful sunny day today on Boxing day, so we decided to head off to the Dandenongs for some photography. We went to skyhigh overlooking the dandenongs and took some photo's there amongst the gardens, then onto Emerald for some pics of the Puffing Billy steam train and then stopped off at Cardinia Reservoir on the way home. Really happy with some of the pics, but there were plenty also that were either too light or too dark, so I will have to sit down and read the photography book on exposure that Cynthia gave me for christmas!

Portrait photography

My neice Allison has kindly agreed to be my model so I can practice some portrait photography. Here is the first pic which I was really happy with. I converted the pic to b&w and also had to photoshop some of her flyaway hair but other than that I am really happy with the outcome.

Well the tree went up tonight, so a good opportunity to try some close up night-time photography. Hope you all have a safe and happy christmas!

Low light photography

Decided to go for a walk this evening to play around with the Nikon settings on shooting low light photography. Quite happy with how my pics turned out and it is so great on dusk being able to take pics without a flash just by slowing down the shutter speed. Some of the pics came out quite light when it was almost dark.

So much to learn

I have never used the manual settings of a camera before and now with an SLR I have decided it is time to learn to capture the best shots I possibly can. So now I have to learn about shutter speeds, aperature, iso and how they work in conjunction with each other and attaining the correct balance. Here are the first pics using manual settings. So far I just love the clarity of the photographs compared to a point and shoot camera.
